Dear Leman Families,
I appreciate many of our Leman families reaching out to me, and there is nothing that I would love more to do than to allow our scholars the choice of wearing a mask or not. With that said, Leman Academy is not able to do anything in regards to possibly lifting the mask mandate for our scholars at campus. Right after schools learned last month of Gov. Ducey’s Executive Order to allow counties to rescind the mask mandate, all public charter schools received the following through the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (ASBCS):
Dear Charter Operators & Community,
Earlier today, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2021-06, rescinding county and municipal mask mandates and business restrictions established in prior Executive Orders.
However, per the Arizona Department of Health Services, the AZDHS Emergency Measure requiring mask use in K-12 schools remains in effect.
Please continue to enforce the mask mandate in your charter school, as required in the aforementioned Emergency Measure. Masks must be worn on school campuses, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors. The Board will continue to provide updates should any changes be made.
At this point in time, we have not heard of any changes regarding mask wearing for our public charter Leman schools. I wish it could be different, and if I should hear of any type of change to this requirement for wearing masks, I will certainly communicate that information to your school’s Principal to share with our parent communities. I appreciate your continued partnership as we look to navigate this last part of the school year.
Sincerely,
Dennis M. O’Reilly
Head of Schools
