As you are likely aware, Governor Ducey issued an “Arizona: Open for Learning” Executive Order (2020-51) on Thursday, July 23 regarding the reopening of schools for the upcoming academic school year. The Executive Order also requires the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to develop benchmarks for the safe return of in-person classroom instruction, of which ADHS will release to school districts and charter schools on August 7.
Governor Ducey’s Executive Order has provided clarity to school boards and charter school operators across Arizona for the reopening plans to be implemented for this upcoming 2020-2021 school year, and for that, Leman Academy is grateful for his leadership and direction during a rather challenging time facing all schools across our country. Additionally, the health and safety of all of us, our families, faculty and staff must be given the highest consideration as the circumstances due to COVID-19 continue to cause great concern for our Leman community.
With that said, Leman Academy of Excellence will follow the new Executive Order that directs schools to begin operations through Remote Instruction on their regular start date for this upcoming school year.
Additionally, on-site learning (through remote instruction) will be available starting on August 17, 2020 (per Gov. Ducey) for families of essential workers as well as for scholars who may not have access to a computer at home. If your scholar falls into this category, we will have different locations around the school campus set-up (with an adult monitor) as well as a scholar desk 6 feet apart with a chrome-book for your scholar. We also ask that you send your scholar to school wearing a mask, along with a backpack that includes school supplies, a lunch, water bottle and some snacks. Your scholar will follow the normal school day schedule for his/her grade level, including supervised recess. Please plan to drop your scholar off 5-10 minutes prior to the start of his/her school day start as well as pick-up at the normal pick-up time and location. If on-site learning (through remote instruction) is of interest to you, please contact the front office.
Leman Academy welcomes the “public health benchmarks” to be released to charter schools from the Arizona Department of Health Services on August 7. These benchmarks will help guide us moving forward and help determine when Leman Academy is ready for in-person learning. We are not looking to open in-person learning until we believe it’s safe to do so.
We appreciate your continued support and partnership through these rather challenging times. Trials and tribulations come to all of us throughout one’s life; this pandemic has tested all of us together all at once. I only ask that we be patient with one another, supportive of one another, and offer encouragement as we walk through this together.
