Hello! My name is Kara Schubert and I am thrilled to be a part of Leman Academy’s 4th-grade team! I graduated in 2015 from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Psychology with an emphasis in Child Development. I’ve known my entire life that I wanted to work with children in one facet or another. I was heading toward entering social work when I landed my first teaching job and it changed the course of my life. Teaching is where I belong and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

I was a military child and have lived all over the United States but I claim Georgia as my “home.” My husband is also in the military and this is our 3rd duty station together. We have 3 beautiful children and moved here from Texas late last year. The Colorado scenery and cooler weather have been a welcomed change!

During our downtime, we are often traveling to see family in Virginia or Georgia. While at home, the kids spend a lot of time at Taekwondo practice and football during the fall. We love spending time as a family playing board and card games, finding fun things to do outdoors, and having movie marathons.

I cannot wait to meet the 4th-grade scholars and start our adventure together!

Jenna Cappello - 5th grade teacher

I moved to Colorado from Southern California when I was 10 years old. Other than a brief stint back in California during graduate school, I have lived in Colorado ever since. I grew up in Fort Collins and attended Colorado State University. After achieving my bachelors degree in Health and Exercise Science, I pursued a masters degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. This led to my previous career as a PA in Orthopedic Surgery. After becoming a mother, I stepped away from that career to be home with my two daughters. While at home, I began volunteering at my daughters’ elementary school which quickly led to K-12 substitute teaching and long-term substitute teaching for several years until I decided to pursue a full-time teaching career.

This will be my 8th year in education and 2nd year teaching at Leman Academy of Excellence and I am thrilled to be teaching 5th grade this year! I’ve always had a passion for knowledge and learning - I can remember the many educators that changed the trajectory of my life in one way or another and sparked my love of learning. It is because of their spirit that I, too, now enjoy fostering a love of learning in the scholars I teach and building relationships with them.

Outside of work, I enjoy family time, being active outside, lifting weights, traveling, trying new restaurants, cheering on my daughters’ at their sporting events, movies, and hanging with my Goldendoodle, Ruger.

I’m so honored to be part of the Leman staff and can’t wait to instill the love of learning in your scholar!

Kimberly Mohr - 5th Grade Teacher

My teaching journey began living in Germany as a home school parent. Charlotte Mason was our inspiration for educating the whole child and our eclectic curriculum was alive with the world around us. We traveled Europe, mostly by train, for seven years integrating learning lessons in cultural diversity, language, history, theater, and museums. In the classroom we used Saxon Math and a reading progression through Bob Books, McGuffy Readers, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Treasure Island, and more.

My son grew with a love for learning and owned it. He attended college in Greeley, Colorado. Meanwhile, I enrolled with Grand Canyon University for a M. Ed. in Elementary Education.During this time, I taught grades K-5 as a guest teacher and long-term substitute in Florida’s public schools from 2019 - 2022.

I arrived in sunny Colorado (which shines just as bright as Florida) on July 5 th , 2022. From day one with Leman Academy of Excellence, I have to say they are doing a genuine, classical education right by parents, scholars, their future, and this community. I wholeheartedly support their mission and confident I will thrive as your teacher with Leman Academy of Excellence.

Hi! My name is Michelle Suparat and I am so honored and blessed to be part of the Leman family!

My husband and I both come from the Midwest and have six children together - ranging from ages 8 to 19. My younger ones attend Leman and my older ones go to Legend high school. My oldest son is currently serving in the Army!

I received my Bachelors degree in Educational Studies for Elementary Education and have been in the education field for many years in a variety of roles. I have started a PreK/K program, been a traveling preschool/kindergarten teacher, a music teacher, subbed in classrooms K-8 and even homeschooled our children for a few years using a Charlotte Mason-inspired program.

I stepped into the role of Guest Teacher at Leman and then found my perfect home in 5th grade. I shepherd my classroom like a family, nurturing scholars with a balance of high expectations and love. My favorite aspects of Leman are the rich Literature, the whole-child approach and the Charlotte Mason/classical curriculum.

Sara Borisov - Middle School ELA

Words cannot express how excited I am to begin collaborating with the scholars, parents and staff of Leman Academy of Excellence. From my first conversations with the administration, I finally felt 'home' within a community that fosters excellence in character and education. I earned a bachelor's degree in Technical Communications from Missouri State University, a Master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctoral degree in Ethical Leadership from Olivet Nazarene University. Having worked with many grade levels, from kindergarten, to most recently junior-level English and AP Language and Composition in high school, I am thrilled to be back teaching my 'first love': 6th grade English. I taught both 6th and 7th-grade honors English in St. Louis for several years, then had the unique experience of 'looping' with my middle school students in Gardner, Kansas from 6th, to 7th, to 8th grade. My last two years of education have been in the high school classroom. Additionally, I teach both undergraduate and graduate college courses for Ottawa University which include ESL Instruction, Ethics, and Inclusion.

It has been a long-term goal of our family to move to Colorado, and our dream was realized this summer when my husband's company offered us the opportunity to move to the Denver area. We are excited to settle into our new home within the Parker community in the coming months. I hope to have the opportunity to meet each of you in the coming days, weeks, and months, and look forward to a collaborative relationship with you and your scholar.

Katie Krock - Middle School Math Teacher

Hello, my name is Katie Krock and I am so excited to join Leman Academy of Excellence as a 5th-grade teacher this year!

I grew up in Washington State but moved to Florida in high school. It was too muggy for me there, so after two years, I moved back to Washington for college. I knew from early on that I wanted to be a teacher, the only question I had was which subject. I ended up as a math major and can now teach elementary school as well as any grade-level mathematics. After graduation, I decided to move back toward my family who had moved to Colorado during my time at college. That is how I ended up in this wonderful little area.

I am the second-oldest of eight siblings and have three dogs living with me right now. In my spare time, I love reading, doing puzzles, art, and long walks with my pups. I travel when I can and spend as much time with my family as possible.

Last year was a bit of a hiccup and I was a Spanish teacher at Mesa Middle School, but I wouldn’t trade the experience I got there for anything. This year I am beyond blessed to be teaching as a 5th-grade teacher at Leman Academy of Excellence!

Jordan Towne - MIDDLE SCHOOL HISTORY TEACHER

Jordan wanted to be a teacher since he was in 4th grade. After studying history and philosophy at CU Boulder, he wanted to put that theory to the test. As a result, he traveled to Santiago, Chile and taught English there for a year to business professionals. Sure that this was his ideal career path, he began a Masters in Education program at Regis and before he knew it, was teaching at Leman Academy of Excellence! Teaching here has been everything he could have hoped for and Jordan loves to help scholars achieve independent and critical thinking and believes that history is the cherry on top of a rich classical education. Jordan is originally from Nebraska but has been in Colorado long enough to nearly forget that fact and grew up in Castle Rock. In his spare time, you'll mostly find him reading historical fiction or playing ice hockey. He is a huge fan of the Colorado Avalanche.

Alicia Carroll - Language pathologist

Alicia is thrilled to be joining the ESS team at Leman Academy! After working in public schools for the last 10 years, she is very excited to support scholars in their journey through classical education. She has been interested in Leman Academy since she started exploring options of where to send her son for Kindergarten. When she found Leman she fell in love with their classical approach to learning, their mission and philosophies, and that the school is founded on the brilliance of Dr. Leman, who has helped shape her and her husband’s parenting style.

Communication is her passion and she loves working with a wide variety of scholars in order to give them a voice. She is originally from California where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Communicative Disorders from Cal State Fullerton. She then went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Cal State Northridge. While in college she worked as an ABA therapist and comes with extensive experience with children with autism. Ashley Faye - Intervention/504/ALP coordinator

Classical education has been a foundation throughout my life! Being brought up with a classical education and with the principles of Love and Logic, my model of thinking and teaching fit amiably with Leman Academy’s mission and their vision for tomorrow’s leaders. Charlotte Mason’s methodologies and Dr. Leman’s family philosophies are a reflection of how I’ve taught in other schools as well as how I’ve raised my own daughter. Having the opportunity to live out these worthy and true principles alongside ‘adults becoming’ is nothing less than rewarding and inspiring! Diving deep into the literary themes of texts and analyzing the intriguing characters throughout history and engaging in respectful discourse are among my favorite activities to pursue with scholars.

Having a background in early education and administration and tutoring scholars in middle school and high school, my understanding of the development of a child is heightened and aids me in guiding children academically and socially emotionally through their educational career!

Being a native to this beautiful state, my family and I thoroughly enjoy taking advantage of the adventures it offers such as camping, hiking, biking, and skiing. We are an ever-moving family with horses and dogs, who are the center of our lives!

Angela Fontanelli -ESS

Angela is very excited to join Leman Academy of Excellence and work with the Exceptional Student Service team. Angela spent time living in Costa Rica and served as the 1-3 grade teacher while there.

KYLANNE HART - Mental Health

Hi! My name is Kylanne Hart, and I have been with Leman from the start as a 2nd Grade teacher but am excited to be in a different role this year. I will be providing targeted instruction for scholars in grades 3-5. I will also be working with our School Psychologist. I love teaching more than I thought possible because of the model we follow at Leman. Our curriculum is truly so special, and I look forward to working with scholars to grow their own love for learning.

I have my BA in Psychology, MA in Education, and am currently working on my Ed.S in School Psychology. I love the opportunity to help all scholars succeed in school. This year, I will be focusing on just that! I am a Colorado native and appreciate this beautiful place more and more every year. I love to travel, even if it’s just to a new restaurant ;) I enjoy reading and being outside in my spare time.

My favorite thing about our curriculum is our focus on values and virtues. I think teaching the whole child is critical to education. It is one of the things that drew me here, and one of the MANY things that have kept me here. I am looking forward to an amazing year!

RACHEL JENSEN - READING INTERVENTION

Rachel is excited about the opportunity to guide scholars as an interventionist at Leman Academy of Excellence. Her love for education began in high school and continues today. She graduated from Metro State University in 1997 with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. After graduation, she spent a year in the Englewood Public School system before moving to California to be a missionary teacher in Wyatts California. She spent several years there before returning to Colorado in 2001 to start a family. Upon her return, she taught kindergarten in Colorado Springs for several years.

In 2007, Rachel began her eleven year journey at a private school in Parker teaching third grade. Her children attended the school as well, and thrived in the rigorous environment. Rachel taught several grade levels at the school before accepting the Reading Specialist position at the school in 2010 and the MTSS Coordinator position in 2017. She earned her Masters in Teaching with her Literacy Intervention Certification from Colorado College in 2014. She became a Certified Academic Language Therapist with ALTA and earned her Reading endorsement from the State of Colorado in 2015. She currently works at a private practice as a Literacy Therapist for children with dyslexia or other literacy disorders.

Rachel's passion is literacy! She believes her dual position at Leman will enable her to bring literacy to life before and after difficulties arise. Rachel is ecstatic about the philosophy and mission of Leman and is looking forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to make the Parker Leman campus a safe place to shine in the Parker community.

Nathan Jensen - Middle School music Teacher

Hello! (said in a low, but excited bass voice) I am Nathan Jensen, one of the Music Teachers. Music has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember, especially since I come from a musical family. I began piano lessons at the age of six, handbells once I could see over the table, trumpet in fifth grade, and have always sung.

In high school, I was heavily involved in music including honor choirs and competitions where I was lucky enough to win various awards. I received my Bachelor of Music Education, K-12 field endorsement and Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance degrees from Hastings College. While there, I performed in nearly every ensemble offered, from the college choir, Hastings Symphony Orchestra, band, handbell choir, to an a cappella group. I continued my education at the University of Northern Colorado, receiving a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance with an emphasis in opera. So far, I have performed in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and around the United States. I love that my career allows me to combine performing and teaching.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my partner, Anna. We enjoy being outdoors, playing board games, watching good TV shows, snuggling with our cats, and visiting our families and friends. I am thrilled to be at the Leman Academy of Excellence!

Stephanie Petrie - music Teacher

Hi! I’m Stephanie Petrie and I am so blessed to be teaching Grammar School Music! This is my second year teaching general classroom music, but my Leman journey began when the school opened in 2018 teaching band and orchestra every day after school. The scholars, parents and administration have always made Leman feel like “home” to me and my family. Music has been a part of my life since as long as I can remember. Growing up in Connecticut, I was very fortunate to have been able to study music under the best teachers who have left a lasting impact on me. My high school years led me on many journeys through music, athletics and an unwavering love of weather. After receiving numerous prestigious awards and scholarships for flute performance I took the music path, majoring in Music Education with a Special Education minor at the University of Connecticut (but only after I was told by another university that I could NOT double major in music and meteorology). I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wanted to use music as a therapeutic intervention for all those in need. Realizing that my love of music reached farther than teaching children, I made the decision to continue my studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, completing a rigorous dual Bachelor’s degree program in Music Education and Music Therapy.

As a music therapist, I have had the pleasure of making music with a wide variety of wonderful people including children with special needs, in-home special services, assisted living facilities, group homes and residential psychiatric hospitals. I have taught private students from ages 3 – 96 (yes, you read that right), and general/instrumental music in elementary, middle and high schools in Massachusetts and Colorado. Most recently I was the music director at PEPC Early Learning Center where I brought the joy of music to children 6 weeks – 5 years old in their classrooms and on stage for various Christmas programs, graduations and other special events.

I am married to my fun-loving and amazing husband Michael. We two children, Bentley who is in 3rd grade at Leman and Ivy who is in her last year of preschool. We love rescue animals including our two dogs and three cats. I am also a certified weather spotter for the National Weather Service, as I can’t give up my love of weather! We are an outdoors family who enjoys hiking, camping, archery, fishing, paddle boarding, mountain biking, snowboarding and snowshoeing in the mountains whenever we can.

My main goals as the gym teacher are to teach teamwork, develop skills and build confidence through physical activity. My view on gym class is to make it a safe place to come and enjoy yourself in a way you can express yourself and build up your peers. I want the scholars to look forward to each time they have gym while learning and growing their skill set and confidence along the way.
