Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to welcome you to Leman Academy of Excellence, Oro Valley, and to a great 2017-2018 school year! I have been an LPN for over 17 years and have worked in the school health setting for the last 10 years. I am thrilled to be returning for my second year. This year I will be the Health Services Coordinator for Leman Oro Valley (LOV).
Now that the school year has begun, I want to provide you with the following information:
-
ALL medications, including over-the-counter type medications, need to have a physician order before they can be administered at school. This medication order needs to be rewritten for each school year. The health office will carry Benadryl, Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, and Cough Drops. Please use the form entitled “Over the counter medication” if this is something you would like available for your child.
-
I want to remind you of the Arizona Department of Health immunization requirements for children 11 years and older. I am happy to talk with you in person or by phone, and discuss any concerns or questions you may have. For more information, please visit the CDC website atwww.cdc.gov/vaccines/teens. Arizona requires proof of the following immunizations, or a valid exemption, for your child:
-
Meningococcal conjugate – this vaccine protects against bacteria that cause meningococcal disease and meningitis, both very serious illnesses where death can occur in as little as a few hours. A second shot is recommended for teens at age 16 to provide continued protection.
-
Tdap – this booster dose provides continued protection against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.
-
Please refer to http://azdhs.gov/phs/immunizat
ion/school-childcare/requireme nts.htm for a copy of the Arizona Personal Beliefs Exemption form, if needed.
-
If your child will be playing in any Leman After-School sports this year, a Physical Evaluation form is required. This form requires a Health Care Provider signature.
-
The health office would greatly appreciate your help with select donations and supplies. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide! We could use the following:
-
Tissue boxes
-
Disinfectant wipes
-
Baby wipes
-
Disposable water bottles
-
Non-perishable snacks such as Goldfish crackers, apple sauce, cheese crackers.
-
Plastic spoons
-
5 oz (bathroom size) paper cups
-
Juice
-
Boy and girl underwear (new) – all sizes
-
Flip flops, tennis shoes, socks, shoe laces
-
We are currently in need of boys gently used uniforms in size 9-10 and 11-12
-
A friendly reminder that “Action plans” for asthma, diabetes, seizures, or other special health concerns require a physician signature, and need to be renewed for each new school year.
-
And finally, I want to encourage you to contact me if your child has any ongoing health concerns or a significant health history. I want to partner with you, and help support the needs of your child, in every way possible!
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me by email at mvalencia@lemanacadely.org
Start pulling off the cushions and digging deep in your purses and wallets for the 2017 Leman Academy of Excellence Penny Wars!
This fundraiser is a fun competition between classes to raise money for and school and teachers.
Everyday we will have a bucket with your teacher’s names in the front lobby. Pennies and dollar bills will count towards the positive balance for your class total. Each bucket will be counted daily. Scholars and parents will be updated with the bucket amounts. So bring in your dollars (any denomination) and your pennies to fill your buckets!
BUT WAIT…if you don’t want your opponents to win, you can throw your silver change (dimes, nickels, quarters, and silver dollars) in their buckets. Any silver change will deduct from their total positive balance.
Strategize with your scholars. All buckets will be placed out in the front lobby in the morning for you to empty your pockets, purses and wallets!
The classroom with the highest positive balance will win a scholar verses staff kick ball game on our new playground! Who will it be? Well you can’t win unless your class plays…
PENNY WARS!!!!!
