Our
Virtues
Education for the Mind and Heart
At Leman Academy of Excellence, we believe the best education is one that focuses on developing the scholars’ minds and character. Our rigorous classical education curriculum makes this possible. We provide scholars with a strong academic foundation and the encouragement to develop thoughtful and respectful relationships with their fellow scholars, parents and teachers.
Our scholars graduate from Leman Academy with the knowledge they need to succeed and the understanding of six key virtues: caring, citizenship, perseverance, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness. We believe these will empower them to be kind, contributing members of their communities and the best versions of themselves.
Our Character Attributes Help Scholars Thrive
Caring is being interested, concerned or empathetic about someone or something. Caring people express gratitude, kindness, compassion and forgiveness and help others in need.
Citizenship means accepting the responsibility to contribute to the greater good of the community. Good citizens cooperate, respect authority and obey rules and laws. They stay informed, vote and are responsible, caring participants in school, local, state and global communities.
Perseverance involves working hard to set and achieve personal goals, learning from failure and following through with an undertaking to the end. People who persevere demonstrate commitment, pride and a positive attitude to completing tasks.
Respect requires recognizing other people’s feelings, opinions or possessions. It is an attitude that you display every day. When you treat others with respect, you accept differences, use good manners and deal peacefully with anger, insults and disagreements. Respectful people show high regard for authority, other people, self and country.
Responsibility requires taking control of your actions and your obligations. It also means taking ownership for something that is your fault, holding yourself accountable for your decisions and actions rather than pointing the finger at someone else. It means having a sense of duty to fulfill tasks with reliability, dependability and commitment and extends to self-discipline and work ethic. When you are responsible, you always do your best. Responsible people think before they act and consider the consequences.
Trustworthiness is being reliable, keeping promises and following through on your word. Trustworthy people are honest and have the courage to do the right thing.
