Leman Academy Afterschool Program

Leman Academy’s Arizona schools were voted both Best Company to Work for (large) and Best Afterschool Program by the 2019 Arizona Daily Star Reader’s Choice Awards! We are so proud of all our amazing schools! Thank you to everyone who helps make them such wonderful places to learn and grow!

The following programs are not part of our regular instructional program covered by state funding and therefore have fees attached as they are additional programs offered by Leman Academy:

  • After Bell Program
  • Sports Program
  • Mad Science After-School Science Labs
  • Taekwondo Club

Please see the corresponding tabs for full details.

The After Bell program is established as a child care alternative for families whose children attend our school. Scholars respect adults, peers and all facility property. The program is regulated by the Arizona Department of Health and Human Services Office of Child Care Licensure.

Families not already registered for After Bell, please fill out the registration form and email back to the After Bell director or drop it off at the front desk. Thank you for partnering with us.

Vision & Goals

The After Bell program at Leman Academy of Excellence will provide activities that support the following goals:

  • To provide a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment for scholars after regular school hours.
  • To promote positive development of self in each scholar.
  • To provide and encourage the love of art, music, and literacy.
  • To provide and develop positive, appropriate social and play skills.
  • To provide fun social extracurricular activities that increase physical coordination and creativity.
  • To provide a supervised academic session.

The cost of the After Bell program will be $5.90 per hour, broken. For each additional child the program fee will be $4.90 per hour. You will be billed every Monday for the prior week of After Bell services. Payments are due by Friday of that week. A $25 late fee may be applied if the account is delinquent. If payments are over a week late, your child may not be allowed to continue in the After Bell program. If a child is picked up after 6:00pm, a fee of $20 per child and $1 a minute will be applied.

Hours of Operation

Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday: 2:15pm-6:00pm
Wednesday: 1:00-6:00pm

After Bell will operate from 11:00am - 4:00pm on Early Release Day when children are dismissed at 11:15am. If any changes in schedule are made, the Director will post it for the parents in advance.

Contact Information

Parents may contact the After Office between 12:00pm and 6:00pm at (520) 639-8080 ext:1122 to address any concerns or situations needing attention. A conference will be scheduled if deemed necessary.

The After Bell program is participating in the Empower Pack. A snack of two components is available through Leman Academy After Bell. The snack menu will be posted on the Parent Board. Scholars are welcome to bring their own snacks to the After Bell program.

Description of Activities And Educational Programs

Homework Period: A quiet time in which scholars independently complete as much homework for the day as possible. The staff member’s job is to give assistance to scholars, however, it is not a tutoring session.

Table Games: Used for recreational/relaxation purposes. Scholars are assisted in selection games that are age appropriate. Socialization and group play skills are encouraged.

Organized Sports: A game that has a set of rules known to all participants. These sports include: basketball, soccer, kickball and gym based sports.

Movies: Shown on our early dismissal days or on rainy days. All movies are educational or recreational in nature and will carry a “G” or “PG” rating. If you wish to opt out of the “PG” movies, just notify us with the program. We will have another activity for your child to participate in.

Recess: A time when scholars may engage in physical activities of their own choosing, such as tag, jump rope, or gym based sports. The field, outdoor play area or gym are used for this activity. Scholars must remain in control during this ‘free play’.

After Bell Activity Programs

For the Fall Semester of 2018, Leman Academy of Excellence plans to partner with the following vendors for enrichment classes after school:

  1. Taekwondo Club

Class providers are responsible for contacting parents if a class is cancelled due to weather or teacher illness. Please be sure the providers have accurate emergency contact information to reach you the day of class in the event of a last minute class cancellation. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled and your money returned by the instructor. Please ensure your scholar knows the time and place of their After Bell class. If your scholar is not in After Bell, please be sure to provide proper supervision to your scholar(s) as needed.

Arrival and Departure Procedure

Scholar will be escorted to the After Bell program by a teacher or, as age appropriate, report to the cafeteria to be admitted into the program. Scholars will sign-in at the attendance table. Attendance will be taken by After Bell staff when transitioning to their classroom.

Parents will park in the lot located on the side (north) portion of Leman Academy. Parents will walk into the cafeteria and sign out their child from the After Bell program. If an unrecognized person is to pick up your scholar(s) be prepare to show picture ID to After Staff. The ID will be verified against the ‘Approved for Scholar Pick Up’ list on file with the school office. If you are sending someone NOT on the approved pick up list, please make arrangements with the front office PRIOR to scholar pick up.

Scholar must be picked up by 6:00 pm. Late fees will accrue after 6:00 pm ($20 per scholars and $1 per minute starting at 6:01 p.m.). Parents who are late picking up their scholar(s) more than three times during the course of a month may face being dropped from the After Bell program.

If your scholar is ‘left’ at the school past 6:30 pm and the school has not been notified of proper arrangements for pick up, we are authorized to call the Marana City Police Department to escort your scholar home.

The After Bell program operates on days when Leman Academy is in session. The After Bell program may provide camps during Fall, Spring and Summer Breaks. If camps are available, they will be announced in the Leman Academy of Excellence newsletter.

It is in the best interest of your scholar and the other scholars if you keep your scholar at home when he or she is ill. Scholars with fever, diarrhea, vomiting will not be admitted to the program. If a scholar becomes ill while at the program, the parent will be called immediately to pick up the child. Parents will be notified regarding contagious illnesses. Scholars will be readmitted when they are 24 hours symptom free.

In accordance with state law, we will not dispense any medication to any scholar without advanced written consent from the parent or guardian. Prescription medication may be given only to the scholar for whom it is prescribed. NO over the counter medication will be administered to any scholar. The parent must complete and have on file at the main office a “Parent Permission to Administer Medication” form.

Scholars are expected to behave in a manner consistent with the code of conduct policy found in the Leman Academy of Excellence Parent/Scholar Handbook. Positive reinforcement is the main form of discipline aside from the guidelines for behavior established in the Parent/Scholar Handbook.

Parents may set up a meeting with the program Director to discuss individual needs and concerns. We plan to use a consistent, positive approach including redirection, diversion and
separation, with an eye toward promoting self discipline.

Discipline Policy

  1. First Offense: Director/Scholar conference
  2. Second Offense: Director/Parent/Scholar conference
  3. Third Offense: Suspension from the program
  4. Fourth Offense Dropped from the program

    • Format: Scholars will sing a song of their choice unaccompanied (no karaoke tracks or instrumental accompaniment), followed by some vocal exercises directed by Mr. Borboa

      • Scholars should choose a song that they can comfortably sing. The selection should be no more than 2 minutes long. Scholars should also understand that they may be asked to stop sooner than 2 minutes due to time constraints. They are asked to sing a cappella (without accompaniment) so we are able to better evaluate intonation & musicality.
  • Other Information:
    • Scholar song-choice should not have any inappropriate content
    • Scholars are asked to come not more than 10-15 minutes before their scheduled time slot.
    • The list of scholars who will be invited to become LAE Youth Choir members for the 2021-2022 season will be shared via email to parents on Friday, August 13. Should your child not be invited to participate, please be sure to encourage your child by reminding them they should be proud of themselves for having the courage to audition and to think about continuing to practice, and grow so they’re ready for the next opportunity that comes along. Whether they're elated or disappointed, please encourage them to work towards getting to a place where they can genuinely congratulate those who were invited, and encourage those who weren't. Finally, whether they were invited to participate this year, or they look forward to trying again next year, they should be encouraged to walk forward with humility, and kindness.  Sign Up Genius Link
