DENNIS O’REILLY – HEAD OF SCHOOLS
Mr. O’Reilly started working with young people as a volunteer junior high basketball coach back in 1990, and has been in education for over twenty years, starting as a middle school math teacher back in 1993. Mr. O’Reilly has been an administrator since 1999 serving as Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant to the Principal, Principal, and Head of Schools at three different private schools in Tucson, Arizona and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Chapman University. Mr. O’Reilly has been married for sixteen years to his beautiful bride Krissy, and will have two scholars attending Leman Academy, Conner and Adeline.
ERIC CAREY – PRINCIPAL
Mr. Carey has served at Leman Academy for 3 years with nearly 20 years of experience in teaching and administration. Much of Mr. Carey’s career has been in teaching High School English, serving as a Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator, and now has the priveledge of being the Principal of Leman Virtual Academy. Having earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University (Malvern, PA), and his BSED in English at West Chester University (West Chester, PA), he holds PreK-12 Principal and for Teaching 6-12 English certifications in both Arizona and Pennsylvania. Mr. Carey, his wife, and their four children enjoy living in Eastern Tucson where they hike and mountain bike. He also enjoys woodworking, and keeping his ‘67 Chevy II running strong. One of Mr. Carey’s favorite quotes is by the 18th Century Poet, Alexander Pope: “A little learning is a dangerous thing/Drink deep or taste not the Pierian Spring.”
ELIZABETH BERRY - FOURTH GRADE
Elizabeth Berry has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University. She has worked with kindergarten as well as fifth grade, throughout her teaching career. Last year was her first-year teaching fourth grade at Leman.
Mrs. Berry and her husband are from Texas, they are stationed here in Arizona and will be stationed back to Texas at the end of August. They have enjoyed everything that Arizona has offered to them. They have a daughter named Rosalee and are expecting their second child in February. Some of her hobbies and passions would include being with family, reading, running and traveling. She has been working with young scholars since she was sixteen and has loved every minute of it. She loves the impact that we as teachers make on their lives. She is looking forward to continuing to work with Leman Academy through the Virtual Academy and continue to be a part of the Leman family.
AMMIE COOPER - SECOND GRADE
Ammie Cooper is excited to teach 2nd grade for Leman Virtual Academy. Born and raised in Kentucky she graduated from the University of Kentucky with her Masters Instruction & Curriculum degree in 2000. After moving to Tucson, she met her husband on the soccer field and they married in 2006. She is blessed with three girls, two dogs, one cat and two fish. This school year she looks forward to working with her 2nd grade families to form a partnership for a successful learning environment.
MELINDA CUILTY - MIDDLE SCHOOL
Melinda Cuilty is excited to be teaching for Leman Academy of Excellence for her 3rd year. Melinda grew up in Nebraska and graduated college from Northern Arizona University. After college she traveled and ended up calling Tucson, Arizona her home. Mrs. Cuilty has a passion for teaching Middle School because of the students. She has been a presenter at a National Math Conference for the past 3 years. Melinda's favorite part of teaching at a classical school is the in-depth history content and the connections the scholars are able to make.
Mrs. Cuilty now lives in El Paso, Texas. Her husband and son keep her very busy with their numerous activities. Melinda enjoys all sports, especially watching her son play basketball or husband race cars. Mrs. Cuilty is a huge Disney fan, and even got engaged at Disneyland. When her family is not busy they love to play games together and travel. This summer they spent a week in New York City. She always makes sure to come back to Tucson for a U of A football game.
She is super excited to be in this cutting edge classroom and working with each scholar and partnering with parents.
Joelle Smith loves being a part of the team at Leman Academy of Excellence. She enjoys partnering with parents and building relationships with Leman families. She is passionate about teaching and provides hands-on learning experiences for her scholars. She has been in education since 2010 and has taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. She grew up in a small farming community in Southeast Idaho and received a Bachelor’s of Education Degree at Idaho State University. She completed her Master’s Degree in Literacy through Northwest Nazarene University in 2012. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys golfing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
