    Mindy Cook

    Mindy Cook

    6th-8th Grade Teacher

    mindy.cook@lemanacademy.org

Hello! My name is Mindy Cook, and I am excited to be teaching 7th and 8th grade at Leman Virtual Academy this year. This is my third year at Leman Virtual Academy, and I bring over 25 years of experience in education. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching students from preschool through 8th grade, and I continue to be inspired by the opportunity to help young people grow both academically and personally.

I am passionate about classical education because it encourages scholars to think deeply, communicate clearly, and pursue truth, goodness, and beauty. I believe education is about more than gaining knowledge, it is about developing character, cultivating wisdom, and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. My goal is to create a classroom where scholars feel challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.

When I am not teaching, you will usually find me spending time with my husband and our three boys. We love traveling together and exploring new places, especially anywhere near the ocean. In my free time, I enjoy baking, antique shopping, and taking care of my chickens.

I look forward to partnering with our families and helping make this a wonderful year of learning, growth, and discovery for every scholar.

    Julie Hesson

    1st-2nd Grade Teacher

    julie.hesson@lemanacademy.org

Hello! My name is Mrs. Julie Hesson, and I am excited to be the 1st/2nd Grade Virtual
Academy teacher at Leman Academy of Excellence.

Originally from a suburb of Chicago, my family and I have called Arizona home for the past nine years. My husband and I have been married for 29 years and are proud parents of two sons. Our oldest, Nile, graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, with a degree in Secondary Education. Our younger son, Lucas, is a junior at the University of Iowa, where he is majoring in Sports Management.

I earned my degree in Elementary Education from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to teach nearly every
elementary grade level, giving me a broad perspective on supporting students as they grow and learn.

I also taught kindergarten in a virtual setting during the 2020–2021 school year, which gave me an understanding of online learning.

I am thrilled to be part of the Leman Academy Virtual Team and look forward to partnering with families to help our scholars learn, grow, and succeed during the 2026–2027 school year!
