Pick-up & Drop Off
Scholar Drop-Off & Pick-Up Pattern
Leman Academy of Excellence is committed to safety and respect.
We count on our supportive families to follow this pattern and show respect to one another. Together, we are our scholars’ most important role models.
General Carline Notes
- The safety of our scholars, staff, and families is our number one priority during our carline process. We ask that all who are involved in this process model the kindness and patience we are asking our scholars to uphold.
- Please follow the designated routes for our carline process. Deviation from this process creates safety and efficiency issues for the entire school. If you have any questions regarding the process, we encourage you to reach out to your scholar’s teacher for clarification.
- We ask that all scholars are able to unbuckle themselves and exit from the right (passenger) side of the vehicle. Parents should remain in their vehicles at all times as exiting your vehicle significantly slows down our process.
- Leman Academy staff cannot buckle scholars into their vehicles for any reason. If your scholar needs assistance buckling themselves into your vehicle, please pull forward into an empty parking spot before helping your child.
Drop-Off Procedures
All drop-off times are listed in the table below:
Scholar Grade Level | Courtyard Gate Opening | Class Start Time |
Kindergarten | 7:30 am | 8:05 am |
1st Grade | 7:30 am | 8:05 am |
2nd Grade | 7:30 am | 8:05 am |
3rd Grade | 7:30 am | 8:00 am |
4th Grade | 7:30 am | 8:00 am |
5th Grade | 7:30 am | 7:55 am |
6th Grade | 7:30 am | 7:45 am |
7th Grade | 7:30 am | 7:45 am |
- The Bayou Gulch campus will have one single drop-off and pick-up location for the 25/26 school year for our K-8 scholars. This loading and unloading zone is located on the south side of the campus. Please do not drop-off Pre-K scholars in this location as there is a separate entrance and check-in process. Please see the carline map below for more details.
- As scholars arrive each morning, they will have a designated area to go until their teachers greet them and begin class.
- Pre-K – Dropped off at the Pre-K entrance located on the West side of the school
- K-4 – Gather on the South Courtyard (adjacent to drop-off and pick-up zone) until teachers pick them up.
- 5-7 – Gather on the North Courtyard until teachers pick them up. Scholars will walk through the building to get to the North Courtyard.
- Parking is permitted only in designated parking. Please do not park alongside the curb of the school as it will impede the carline process. See the carline map below for designated parking areas.
- All K-8 siblings can be dropped off at your oldest child’s start time and picked up at your oldest child’s end time. Please pull all the way to the front of the line before you stop as this allows as many scholars to exit cars as possible each time.
- As we continue to ensure the health and well-being of our scholars and staff, we ask that parents not linger during drop-off. Please unload your K-8 scholars and head out to keep our process running smoothly. Kindergarten parents are welcome to walk their scholar to the playground, but then please exit the courtyard area promptly. While it is tempting to linger, this makes for a much easier process for the scholars and families. We appreciate your support in this.
- Although walking your child(ren) to the building and lingering is tempting, Dr. Leman notes that it is best to drop your scholar off and go. We encourage you to do this – just pull up to the sidewalk, wave at the administrators, and feel proud of your child growing up to be more independent. We promise, no matter their age, we will take care of them. If you do walk your child to the courtyard, please model civility and kindness by using the crosswalk and waiting to cross the road until the designated crossing guard provides a safe opportunity.
Pick-Up Procedures
All drop-off times are listed in the table below:
Scholar Grade Level | Pick-Up Time |
Kindergarten | 2:45 pm |
1st Grade | 2:50 pm |
2nd Grade | 2:55 pm |
3rd Grade | 3:00 pm |
4th Grade | 3:10 pm |
5th Grade | 3:15 pm |
6th Grade | 3:25 pm |
7th Grade | 3:30 pm |
- All of your scholars can be picked up at the same time. That time slot is based on your oldest scholar’s grade level. All younger scholars will go to our transition program where they will wait, with staff supervision, for the oldest sibling or carpool rider to get them and take them out to carline.
- As with drop-off, please pull as far forward in the pick-up zone as possible to allow for the greatest number of cars to pick up their scholars.
- At pick-up time, your yellow Car Placard is required to collect your child(ren). You will receive your placards at Teacher Meet and Greet. Please ensure you have a placard for each vehicle. Leman Academy will not compromise on scholar safety. If you do not present your Car Placard, you will be required to park and enter the front office to prove you are an authorized person for pick-up. Your state issued driver’s license will be required for this process. Please ensure that your placard is in a visible location for our staff to read.
- Please “double stack” to avoid backing up traffic onto Estancia Blvd. Cars will alternate into the single lane when they begin the turn towards the south end of the campus. Patience and kindness will be necessary because scholar and staff safety always come first.
Lightning or Inclement Weather Pick-Up Plan
When lightning is near, per DCSD, we are unable to allow scholars out of the building like we normally do. If parents would like to brave the weather and collect their child(ren), they are welcome to. If they would like to wait until the weather passes to pick up their child, that is ok as well.
- When needed, we will send an “email blast” to all guardians notifying them of a Lightning Dismissal. We will also post a Lightning Flag at each entrance (Vista Arroyo and Estancia) on our property.
- If you would like to collect your child(ren) from the building, we ask that you park in either a parking space or in the far right lane of the normal carline pattern (leaving the left lane open for cars to exit the campus). You must bring your Car Placard with you to the nearest door where a staff member will be waiting to provide directions in collecting your scholar(s).
- Siblings will not be together in a Lightning Dismissal situation. Parents will need to visit each classroom separately to collect their scholars, including Pre-K, if applicable. Teachers will keep their scholars in their classrooms and let them work ahead on homework or relax until their parent or guardian comes to pick them up. Once you have collected all of your scholars, please safely exit the building and drive safely exiting campus.
Remember, this only works if everyone follows the pattern. Thank you for your help!
